We Love Antisocial

Antisocial hosted a serious rager on Saturday…
When we arrived, Mavie was keeping a crew of anxious skaters off the ramp to give the new coat of sealer as much time to dry as possible. As soon as he gave the go-ahead it was on. The ramp was swarmed and immediately started taking a beatdown. Everyone was going off, but the Energizer Bunny Award goes to Alex Morrison, who was snaking hard all night and probably took three times more runs than anyone else. Long-ass 5-0s to fakie… styley laybacks… oh yeah, and front rocks and lien grinds on the extension anyone? Damn. Chris McCallum dwarfed the ramp. He looked like a guy riding one of those miniature clown bikes as he plowed through backside nosegrinds and hit up the extension with some pivot fakies and fakie ollies. Meanwhile, onlookers worried about the ramp’s well-being (Keegan: “He’s going to break the ramp!” F.C.: “It’s not natural for a guy that size to be able to do things. He should be on a couch somewhere breathing through his mouth.”). Steve Denham was going off as per usual too… nose blunts regular and switch… blunt fakies and bs disasters on the extension. Too much carnage and too little space though… the Faulkners, Alex Rothbauer, Louie, Johnny B, Corey, Whistler Mike, Jimbow…
And speaking of carnage, the session claimed a few for sure. I took myself out with the combo knee/ankle tweaker at about the 30-minute mark, the guy with the GG Allin jacket took about 500 slams onto his tailbone, and Manning broke his nose in a head-on with Scott, who walked off with a pronounced limp and an assortment of facial scrapes.
Live musical entertainment for the evening was courtesy of Vancouver’s newest skate punk band, The China Creeps, who played in a writhing vortex of beer cans, beer, and bodies as they served up a set of rough, fast, loud punk.
Many thanks to Michelle, the construction team (Seb, Luke, Mavie, Trevor, Little Buddy, Fat Chris,…?), The China Creeps, and anyone that I missed. You guys put together another one of those events that make me proud to be a skater.
