My letter and Ms Kim’s are in today’s issue, as well as a letter from a neighbour, Hilda Nanning, who still needs to be won over. As for Hilda’s concerns about a skatepark being so close to a daycare, being a China Creek neighbour myself, I’m more worried about the junkies that shoot up in the daycare’s playground, then about some toddler getting stoked watching Chris doing a blunt fakie.

Interesting article (click click click) about Skateable Furniture - a range of benches that encourage skateboarding as a positive activity for youth to regenerate public spaces.

skate-able public furniture

By getting your switch heel krooks down on these you’re actually saving public areas from those who try to sneak under the radar, you know, “the gansta, the killa and the dope dealer” – It would be cool to keep Ice Cube, WC and Mack 10 out of your sacred skate space, no?

.

Well, maybe we could let Ice Cube chill with us?

guest stance aka sketch stance on myspace

I’m an immigrant and I just moved here to Vancouver from England in March via Montreal. I don’t have a lot of friends nd it’s days like this that I’m missing going to the skatepark and skating the bowl or vert ramp and just drifiting around and slashing the coping. Occasionally I’ll dump a 5o-50 or 5-0 down a wee hubba.

PS. check out my mate weasel on myspace and his sketchgueststance zine, it’s sick. Plus I’ll be drawing in his gueststance zine. Neckface (Thrasher Cover) is also gonna be in there. It’s sick. Get me on myspazz.com fwd slash skateknife.

Vancouver Courier Article – China Creek

courlogoa.jpg Check this Courier article out. Sometimes, I think people don’t really get just how many people skateboard in this city. Ask any kid what their favorite sport is.

Do people blame soccer teams about what happens in their parks at night? In my opinion, what China Creek Park needs is an extreme makeover. Vancouver City Style. Flowers, gardens, paths, a nice clean area for kids. You know, that kind of thing. It is easy to see that skateboarders are not the problem. Just look at all the successful skateparks around the city and surrounding areas with no problems. I think City staff, Parks Board, and Council see this because they see the other skate parks functioning extremely well. I understand the fact that the residents want to blame somebody for some problems they have been having, but they can’t blame skateboarders.

brow-052.jpgAre you scramblin’ to buy presents yet? We-Hell, I got an idea for you! Pick up some bags of Leeside coffee, shirts and wheels. Support a good cause for something that will benefit you in the future. Getting Leeside tunnel built, an out of the rain skate spot for you to skate. Our number one fan, Vancouver Parks Commissioner “Indy Alan” De Genova bought ten bags.
