You’ve probably noticed a new sign up at The Plaza lately. It’s the latest part of the campaign to get skaters off the east Quebec St. sidewalk and onto the west side. There was a recent meeting about the issue and things seem to be coming along nicely.

The issue is far from news… we’ve told you about it here, Ben the resident park host has been spreading the word on-site, and maybe you’ve even been given an in-person talking to by a concerned Citygate resident. Well there was a meeting last week with Park Board councillor Mark Vulliamy, Roundhouse staffer Diana Guenther, Plaza host Ben, a Citygate representative, and yours truly to see how the situation is coming along… and the good news is that it sounds like everyone’s efforts are making a difference.

Of course, we’re not there yet… and there were actually a few complaints about people skating the ledges right in front of Citygate… but word on the street is that overall traffic is down. So keep spreading the word everyone.

Also be aware that, in response to the continued complaints from Citygate residents about the skateboard traffic in their front yard, the City of Vancouver has started research into “skate-proofing” sidewalk surfaces. Is that something you want going on?
