On Tuesday, October 28th at Antisocial, the Vancouver Skateboard Coalition hosted “Boards and Biscuits”, a casual meet-and-greet event for Vancouver City Council candidates. Despite, in a textbook display of Murphy’s Law, another candidates meeting being simultaneously held at Britannia Community Centre, several COPE and Vision Vancouver candidates (along with a few parents, neighbours, kids, and local skateboarders) came to see what we had to say…

For attendees, we had Park Board Candidate Anita Romaniuk representing COPE, and five Vision Vancouver candidates: Constance Barnes and Sarah Blyth for Park Board, Kerry Jang and Andrea Reimer for City Council, and Patti Bacchus for School Board.

As far as content went:

Jeff Cole spoke about his youth skateboard programs.

Nathaniel Adie put together a presentation outlining the whats, whos, whens, whys, and hows of skateparks.

Thor Larsen talked about the current activities of the Leeside Stewardship Group.

Chris Young voiced the Coalition’s frustration over being bumped out of Vancouver’s upcoming Capital Plan.

And then there was some open discussion about a variety of topics.

All in all, it was a success and the Vancouver Skateboard Coalition would like to thank all the candidates who took a couple of hours out of their schedules so close to election time.
