News and Current Issues

Since the creation of the coalition, progress has been made. A vision has been created that has so far been accepted by key members of the youth, the industry, the parks board and community organizations. It is now time to get the message out there and for a lot more people to become involved to help change the way the community perceives this youth culture.

The coalition has been able to bring together key individuals from the youth and organizations such as the VSC, Vancouver Parks Board, Parks Commission, City Council, Civic Youth Strategy, Community Policing, Downtown Business Association and a number of local businesses to help us make this change.

Matt Smed, VSC Member made the following video in his Journalism Class this past summer at SFU on the Skatepark at Quilchena. This was a double-bias project, and the video is split into 2 parts. The first part is positively spinning
skateboarding, and the second part is taking a negative stance.
