AGM – 2017 Board of Directors

In April we hosted our AGM, where we reviewed 2016  and elected this year’s Board of Directors, we are happy to announce the new board.

Vancouver Skateboard Plaza Survey

The Park Board and the City of Vancouver are undertaking a survey for the planning of the area around the Vancouver Downtown Skateboard Plaza.

They want to hear from plaza users right now to get a good understanding of our needs, wants and expectations, in our quest for a better Plaza.

The survey can be completed online here.

Skates hosts will also be at the Plaza between October 15th and 29th to gather information from Plaza skaters. Please fill up the survey,  pass it on share the survey.

Let’s not hope for the best future plaza but get our best future plaza !!

Please write to our city officials and say why skateboarding is important to you and how Vancouver can better serve its skateboard community.
Who to Contact:
Suggested Topics to Discuss:
– How skateboarding/skateparks have been of value to you, your children, or your community
– Need for more skateparks (e.g., the proposed space at Jonathan Rogers Park)
– Need for a broader geographic distribution of skateparks in Vancouver (e.g., a new skatepark in Vancouver’s West Side)
– Need for programming (e.g., lessons) and/or supervision at skateparks
– Importance of preserving, maintaining, or upgrading existing skateparks (e.g., performing repairs and adding obstacles to China Creek)

aSymmetry Project

When Dan Manchee was preparing to return to Canada, prescription he ask Michael Schafer to paint a deck to help him remember his time in Mammoth. While discussing the idea the 2 agreed that there was something unsettling about painting a skateboard and then simply hanging on the wall, skateboards are meant to be skated.

This was the spark ignited the aSymmetry Project.  The aSymmetry Project set out to merge the worlds of art and skateboarding. Together artists and skaters engaged in a process of creation, transformation and destruction.

Summer flew by and August 21st week marked the end of the 22th Bowl Series at the Whistler Bowl. Every year a King and Queen of the Bowls tittle are awarded and this year the honour goes to Cam Mc Gregor and Carrie Williams! Congratulations!!
